“Just so everyone is aware, there is a bunch of misleading info being spread around re: ALS research - the “27%” figure is based on previous years’ annual funding; furthermore, the remainder goes to improving the quality of life of those suffering from ALS. Given that the annual funding is approximately 16M, that’s just over 4M spent on decreasing their suffering. It isn’t greed, it’s a lack of money.”Shut up already.

The ALS Association has a 4-star rating from Charity Watchdog.
And the next time you start to complain about a charity either a) working on multiple fronts (because that’s what ALSA does—both seeking a cure and helping people suffering now) or b) daring to have administration expenses—let’s see how long you can last, much less tackle a cause, without printer paper and an internet connection.

As someone who has watched a family member die from a neuro-degenerative disease; funding to develop better wheelchairs and bedsore creams is *just* as important as funding research to cure the disease itself…

A friend of mine posted an update from one of HER friends to FB earlier.  Her dad has ALS.  The ALS foundation came out to see if they could put in a ramp for his wheelchair, but they couldn’t afford it because of the kind of ramp he needed for the kind of house they had.
This week they called back and said hey, the thing is, we suddenly have a bunch of money, so we’re coming out to build that ramp.  And they did.  She posted pics.
So if you feel like bitching about the ice bucket challenge…reconsider.

4chan hacked tons of female celeb iCloud accounts and have already released tons and tons of nudes and like 30 of Jennifer Lawrence’s alone and there are videos too but they haven’t posted them yet but this is very bad :/

but of course the women are blamed for taking them bc goodness forbid girls love themselves and take pictures of themselves and it’s their fault for being “stupid sluts”

Teen creates bio-plastic from banana peels

Sixteen-year-old Elif Bilgin of Turkey has developed a way to replace traditional petroleum-based plastic with banana peels.
The Turkish teen took home a US$50,000 prize for her project “Go Bananas!” Thursday after winning the second annual Scientific American Science in Action Award, associated with Google Science Fair.
“My project makes it possible to use banana peels, a waste material which is thrown away almost every day, in the electrical insulation of cables,” Bilgin said in a media statement.
“This is both an extremely nature-friendly and cheap process, which has the potential to decrease the amount of pollution created due to the use of plastics, which contain petroleum derivatives.”
Bilgin spent two years developing the bio-plastic, which does not decay. She said the process is so easy that it is possible to repeat at home, with special care taken for chemicals used in the production process.
In September, the teen will compete at Google’s California headquarters for the overall Google Science Fair prize for 15-to-16 year olds. She will also have access to a one-year mentorship.

Has anyone else noticed how many brilliant breakthroughs in science are coming from the minds of teenage girls the last few years? Between this story, the four girls in Nigeria who invented a generator that runs on urine, the California girl who invented a twenty-second cell phone charger… Who knows where we’d be today without the patriarchal interference of men, stealing or hiding the brilliance of women?
Our future is in the hands of teenage girls, and I for one feel really good about that.

When I was about 7 I wanted to invent a thing that purified water based off of fish gills. I went to the school library to do research like a good little inventor and one of my teachers asked me what I was doing, and then told me that there were some new barbie books in, and that I’d probably be better off with those.

Don’t forget the girl who invented a torch that’d light up just from the heat of your hands
basically everyone should stop s***ting on teenage girls because they do awesome things when you let them

or that one time a girl found the cure for cancer that we could be using in 15 years

But nah, girls and women just suck at math and science and have never invented anything worthwhile. Sure. Right.

We all stood together for Syria
We all stood together for Ukraine
We all stood together for Gaza
We all stood together for Ferguson

It’s time we stand together for Pakistan, and spread what’s happening there like wildfire. Don’t let people forget that the citizens of Pakistan are so much more than what we’re portrayed as in the negative light. Make sure everyone KNOWS what the Pakistani protestors are doing right now and the cause they’re fighting for.

It honestly breaks my heart to think that somewhere in the world right now, Jennifer Lawrence (in addition to multiple other women) may very well be crying her eyes out because her privacy has been greatly compromised in one of the most awful ways possible. This is so fucking disgusting and whoever did this is a fucking low-life pig.

I just…. there is so much wrong with this like THIS IS A SONG FOR PLUS SIZED POSITIVITY IN A WORLD WHERE THERE BASICALLY IS NONE and thin people STILL have to make it all about them and their feelings while girls are literally KILLING THEMSELVES out here to fit into a standard of beauty that should be considered arbitrary.

I just. I need to sit down a moment I am literally so mad.

I’m all about this song and the message it’s trying to convey, and I’m not offended by it in the least. I get down to it in my car every time it plays on the radio as I imagine women of all shapes, sizes, and colors partying together.

That being said, I am a skinny girl. A very skinny girl. I always have been. Basically everything about me is flat. I have no butt, or boobs, or sexy curves to speak of. And just because I’m skinny it doesn’t mean I’m happy with my body, in fact I’m usually never happy with it. I hardly ever feel beautiful, or pretty. So don’t just assume that just because a person is thin that they don’t have issues with their body too.

My question is though, in order to lift a specific group of people up, why does another group have to be pushed down?

the thing is that skinny girls are generally told that their body is a-ok while fat girls (fat people in general, but we’ll stick to girls) are told that they’re disgusting and need to change. like, almost every piece of media that is in existence is fat-negative, skinny positive. no one’s saying that you automatically think you’re amazing and perfect and beautiful just because you’re skinny. we’re just saying that its a lot harder to feel that way when you’re fat.

this was meant as less of a “fuck skinny people” and more of a “go fat people!”. she says “skinny bitches” in the same way that people say “fuck white people”. she’s not saying that skinny people are awful, she’s expressing discontentment with her oppressors

I’m bringing booty back
Go ahead and tell them skinny bitches that
No I’m just playing. I know you think you’re fat
But I’m here to tell ya
Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top

Right after she says skinny bitches, she goes acknowledges that even though they’re skinny, they might think negatively about their own bodies

She never actually shames skinny people

(At least, that’s how I see it)
